A Spectroscopic Paradox: The Interaction of Methanol with ZSM-5 at Room Temperature
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract The adsorption of methanol in HZSM-5 at low temperatures has long been regarded as an associative process involving hydrogen bonding to the acidic zeolite hydroxyl groups. Recent studies employing inelastic neutron scattering spectroscopy (INS) have reported that complete dissociation methoxylate occurs 298 K, and infrared evidence for a partial K also described. Here we investigate apparent contradictions between different techniques, using combination INS, solid-state NMR spectroscopy, including isotopic substitution experiments. Different possible explanations are proposed considered; conclude room temperature is very largely associatively adsorbed, although presence some small extent (>1%) methoxylation cannot be ruled out.

Interaction of N2O at low temperatures (473-603 K) with Fe-ZSM-5 zeolites (Fe, 0.01-2.1 wt %) activated by steaming and/or thermal treatment in He at 1323 K was studied by the transient response method and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD). Diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) of NO adsorbed at room temperature as a probe molecule indicated heterogeneity of...
متن کاملDirect Spectroscopic Observation of Fe(III)-Phenolate Complex Formed From the Reaction of Benzene With Peroxide Species on Fe/ZSM-5 At Room Temperature
The reaction of benzene with the active oxygen species was studied by UV-visible diffuse reflectance and Raman spectroscopies. For the first time, the intermediate Fe(III)-phenolate complex was evidenced by a UV-visible absorption band at 690 nm and the Raman bands at 643, 896, 990, 1149, 1228, 1475, 1580, and 1607 cm-1. The Raman bands of the Fe(III)-phenolate complex were also confirmed by de...
متن کاملConversion of Methanol to Hydrocarbons over Ni-zsm-5 Catalyst
As stock of crude oil is limited, new resources for fuel and petrochemicals are required to be developed. Natural gas or biogas can be easily converted into methanol which can be converted into gasoline and olefins. This study uses zeolite catalyst (ZSM-5) and its modification by Ni to convert methanol to hydrocarbons (MTH). Catalysts are studied at different temperatures and at different loadi...
